Preventing Shingles
Shingles is a painful, blistering rash caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. Anyone who has had chickenpox can get shingles. The chickenpox virus stays dormant in the nervous system and can reactivate as shingles.
Almost one out of every three people in the United States will develop shingles in their lifetime. The shingles rash usually lasts two to four weeks, although some people have more serious complications, like pneumonia, hearing or vision loss, or long-term nerve pain.
